First-year

Admission to Grinnell is highly selective, and our students come from many different backgrounds. While no single factor guarantees admission, there are some undeniably Grinnellian characteristics that will help you stand out from the rest. For example, showing that you’ve taken a challenging and balanced high school curriculum, that you’re ready to explore the world and contribute to the greater good, that you’re eager to find your place in a supportive, inspiring community, and that you have demonstrated interest in Grinnell College.

There are only so many times in one’s life when you can truly pick up and try something new for four years. In reading about the community of Grinnell, the academic rigor, and all the research opportunities open to any student, I started envisioning the type of person that I would become after four years at Grinnell and decided to take that leap of faith and apply Early Decision.
